This site is dedicated to the memory of my son Ashley, who died in my arms on 16th April 1997 aged 4 years, after contracting the deadliest form of Meningitis, strain B Meningococcal Septicaemia. Ashley was a lively child, he always enjoyed life to the full and had a smile for everybody. Ashley did not like sadness at all, and although his life was very short, he made a tremendous impression on everyone who met him, he instantly made friends of children and adults alike. Ashley's enthusiasm for life was infectious, he was bold and brave, had no fear only inquisitiveness - he needed to know everything as soon as he could. Maybe his destiny was already planned and he somehow knew long before that fateful day. One thing is for certain, he put up the bravest of fights against the disease, although it took him from me within 18 hours. Ashley's life did not get off to a great start, at 6 months he had to undergo a hernia operation. He was also a chronic asthma sufferer, and had to have inhalers from an early age. His mother left us when he was only 18 months and we became solid friends, he was my inspiration and I could not have got through things without him. Take a look at Ashley's photo album, you will instantly get a feel of how warm and loving he was. His love was unconditional, he took everything that came his way in his stride and I was and still am very proud of him. |
